How to increase your protein intake

Back to GHN Blog

Protein, protein, protein, it’s simply everywhere in the world of workout, and you better make sure you get your recommended daily allowance.

Protein can sometimes seem like a chore, but it doesn’t have to be. No one’s expecting you to live off raw eggs and meat!

We’ve come up with some simple tips to help increase your protein intake, ensuring you get the most out of those workouts.

Come and take a look!

Why should I have to increase my protein intake?

First of all, before we encourage all these magical tips, we need to get an understanding of just why protein is so important.

Not only does it aid weight loss if used correctly, but it can help to repair muscles and increase the size of muscles. It also has various health benefits.

Having more protein in your diet will naturally mean less fatty and carbohydrate-heavy foods, which can only be a good thing.

Fantastic fish

Fish is always a great option for that extra source of protein. If it’s cost-effective or ease of use though, then canned fish can be just the ticket required.

It’s cheap and can act as a snack or part of a meal, not to mention some of the fattier fish contains essential omega-3 acids, known to help improve heart health.

It also makes for great lunches, being a key part of a salad, pasta dish or sandwich.

Go nuts for peanut butter

Peanut butter is extremely high in protein and can be your go-to source when it comes to sweet treats. Use it as a dip for fruit, or even as a start to your day on a piece of toast. Peanut butter goes great with acidic fruits, so the next time you go to grab the jar, don’t feel so bad.

A minimal amount goes a long way in terms of taste and protein content.

If it’s good enough for the Greeks!

Greek yoghurt is another way of getting your protein needs without overindulging. Just like peanut butter, it complements fruit perfectly. Greek yoghurt is also likely to settle your stomach as well as leaving you feeling more full, without the temptation to snack throughout the day.

Opt for protein supplements

Ok, so it isn’t always possible to have a diet that is filled with protein, not to mention it can be quite expensive.

That’s why there are various protein supplements available at GHN.

You can find the list of our powders here, with something to suit every workout type, from muscle gain to weight loss. Vegan options are even available.
