Simple ways to stay active in an office job

Back to GHN Blog

We’ve all been there, losing seemingly any willpower we once had to exercise, due to the surprisingly hectic lifestyle of sitting behind an office chair for the usual 9-5.

Staring at a screen all day can be tiring, and after commuting, sometimes the only thing you want to do is eat, sleep and repeat.

Unfortunately, the above happens far too often in office-based roles, so we want to give you some quick tips at GH Nutrition to ensure you keep an active lifestyle, even whilst at your desk.

Say no to snacks

The temptations are far too great nowadays, whether its colleagues bringing in snacks, or sweet treats being offered around meetings...the possibilities are endless when it comes to snacking opportunities in the office.

That’s why it’s a good idea to prep your meals for the week; including your lunch and also a couple of healthy snack options should you feel the need to indulge. A piece of fruit usually does the trick.

Water is your best friend in this instance, however. If you ever feel the cravings to eat more, then simply take a few swigs of your H20 and the hunger should go away in no time.

Try our Diet Protein Plus as a great replacement for snacks.

Make the right hot beverage choices

Whether its tea, coffee or a mixture of both that fuels your alertness throughout the day, there are some simple changes to ensure you’re getting only what you need, rather than a steaming hot mug of sugar and fat.

Go Black

Opting to have your tea or coffee black is one of the easiest ways to cut out unnecessary calories from your diet.

That latte you order from a well-known coffee outlet, it’s probably filled with whole full-fat milk.

Black tea and coffee is, of course, an acquired taste, but like everything, your taste buds will quickly adapt and it may even become your new favourite.

If you really don’t want to ditch the milk, then opt for skimmed or even milk alternatives, such as soya, oat and almond.

Go Green

Green tea is renowned for being one of the best antioxidants out there. It increases fat burning, improves physical performance and is also beneficial for brainpower.

We could go on about the benefits of green tea for days, but all you need to know is you can’t go far wrong if this becomes your hot beverage of choice.

Make a stand!

There is no reason to be glued to your desk for the whole shift, instead, take regular short intervals to stand up or go for a walk around the office.

For meetings, try and get everyone to stand up. This is a proven method to ensure things aren’t drawn out, whilst employees remain more focused and productive.

Use your lunch and break times wisely, by going on a walk, jog or run, helping to re-energise yourself and readying your body and mind for the afternoon ahead.

Exercise before work

You may not be the best morning person, but exercising before work is a proven way to help you feel alert for the day ahead.

To get the most out of your morning exercise why not try our Xtreme Pump Tablets.

After a long day at work, there may simply not be enough time, and/or energy left to head to the gym, or don those running trainers, so try and make time before the day begins to get in that much-needed exercise.
